Former U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene used a lengthy post on X Saturday morning to deliver her most sweeping indictment yet of President Donald Trump, arguing that a string of what she called broken promises and “out right betrayals” — from the Epstein files fight to an unauthorized war with Iran — will cost Republicans dearly at the ballot box and leave Trump remembered as the last GOP president “for a while.” The post, published at 9:56 a.m. ET on August 8, 2026, was a direct response to Trump’s own recent warning that he “may be the last Republican president” if the Senate does not eliminate the filibuster to pass the Save America Act.
Greene, who represented Georgia’s 14th Congressional District before resigning from Congress on January 5, 2026, spent much of 2025 breaking publicly with the president over the Epstein files, foreign policy and health care, a rupture that culminated in Trump branding her a “traitor” on Truth Social. Saturday’s post extended that break into a full accounting of what she described as the reasons Trump’s presidency, not a lack of Republican turnout, will be responsible for the party’s coming struggles.
The Full Post
Greene’s statement, published in full on X, read as follows:
“Trump claims he might be the last Republican President if the Senate doesn’t pass the Save America Act.
No actually, he won’t be the last Republican President but he likely will be the last one for a while because of his own utter failures to deliver his own promises and campaign agenda, and because Republicans never deliver what they promise because they lie in the first place.
By fighting us to release the Epstein files, Trump destroyed America’s ability to trust him, and he refused to bring accountability to pedophiles and rapists.
By prioritizing his rich donors, big corporations, and big tech instead of prioritizing small business owners (which are over 90% of the businesses in America), the working class, and the everyday Americans like the ones that showed up at all of his rallies.
By supporting, promoting, and directing legislation in Congress from the White House that supports the AI data center agenda, destroying communities and land and precious water instead of standing with the people who overwhelmingly oppose data centers.
By enriching himself and his family with government contracts, Crypto, which he signed into law, and manipulating the markets with his threats and statements.
By waging an unprovoked war with Iran, he completely betrayed one of the key campaign promises and his own statements opposing foreign wars, and instead of bringing peace, he has murdered innocent people like the children in the Minab school.
By stupidly and carelessly depleting our much needed weapons for defense in his pointless war that he started because he listened to Netanyahu instead of our own intelligence reports that Iran was no where near developing a nuclear weapon.
By driving up the cost of living and the price of gas/diesel with his reckless tariff tactics and pointless illegal war instead of lowering the cost of groceries, gas, and housing for struggling Americans like he promised.
By turning his back on DOGE and instead of gutting waste fraud and abuse to massively reduce government spending, he instead demands more spending digging Americans and our future generations into deeper debt which will lead to poverty and a useless dollar.
By 100% completely betraying MAHA by giving total immunity to glyphosate manufacturers, protecting COVID vaccines, never holding anyone accountable like Fauci and others for crimes against humanity during the tyrannical Covid era, and now approving and promoting more dangerous mRNA vaccines and the WH constantly blocking RFK’s agenda, which is what people voted for all because Trump actually opposes MAHA and fully supports the Covid tyranny and was the one who started all of it and loved the Democrat governors, like Cuomo, who extended the lockdowns and madness.
By protecting Chinese foreign students stealing American students college dreams and H1B Indian visa holders replacing Americans jobs, he put Americans last.
By endorsing and supporting literally the absolute worst and most hated so-called Republicans in the party and making sure that they get reelected over and over again to stay in power so that true Conservative America First Republican candidates running in primaries never win. And by backstabbing and attacking those who were most loyal and supportive (like me) but refused to worship him because he is only a man, NOT God.
All betrayals to the people who supported him for so long because we believed MAGA was for the common American man and woman, yet we were completely fooled it was really for the Epstein class and Trump’s circle of rich powerful elite friends and family all along.
In spite of the incredible failures of the Democrat Party for 4 years under Biden, and the fact that they changed none of their policies that caused them to lose in 2024, Trump’s out right betrayals, broken campaign promises, and the Republican Party turning back to it’s neocon war loving big spending useless ways is why so many people are walking away and are now politically homeless.”
A Response to Trump’s Own Warning
Greene’s post was framed explicitly as a rebuttal to Trump, who told Punchbowl News in an interview published days earlier that he “may be the last Republican president” if Senate Republicans fail to eliminate the legislative filibuster before Democrats retake Congress and do it themselves. Trump argued that a Democratic-controlled Senate operating without the 60-vote threshold could add Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico as states, expand the House and the Supreme Court, and reshape the country “for the next hundred years.” Greene’s reply rejected the premise outright, telling her followers that Trump’s own record — not a future Democratic Senate — is what will define the party’s next several election cycles.
A Break Years in the Making
Saturday’s post is the latest chapter in a rupture that has been building since the spring of 2025. Greene, once one of Trump’s most visible defenders in Congress, began drifting from the president after declining to run for the U.S. Senate against Democratic incumbent Jon Ossoff and passing on a run for Georgia governor. The break widened dramatically over the fall, when Greene joined a bipartisan discharge petition forcing a House vote on releasing the DOJ’s files related to Jeffrey Epstein. Greene has said the president worked to keep the records sealed and pressured her privately to abandon the effort.
Trump responded by calling Greene a “traitor,” “wacky” and a “ranting Lunatic” on Truth Social, prompting Greene to say publicly that the label had endangered her safety. Within days, Greene announced in an 11-minute video statement that she would resign from Congress effective January 5, 2026, telling constituents she refused to “be a ‘battered wife’ hoping it all goes away and gets better.” Trump called her departure “great news for the country” in a subsequent interview.
The Epstein Files Fight
Central to Saturday’s post is Greene’s continued insistence that Trump only signed the Epstein Files Transparency Act because “he had to.” More than three million pages of Epstein-related documents have been released by the Justice Department since Trump signed the bill in November 2025, though the DOJ has acknowledged redacting material tied to certain “government officials and politically exposed persons,” including Greene herself. Greene has said she believes Attorney General Pam Bondi was directed by the administration on which cases to pursue, and has repeatedly said she will “only believe it when” she sees a truly complete release.
Iran War Criticism Predates This Post
Greene’s accusation that Trump “murdered innocent people” and depleted U.S. weapons stockpiles in an “unprovoked war” with Iran builds on months of public criticism she has leveled at the administration since resigning from Congress. In July, Greene publicly clashed with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth after he described two U.S. service members killed by Iranian strikes as having made a “sacrifice,” with Greene responding that the men “were killed because of the war you, Trump, and the admin, are waging on behalf of a FOREIGN COUNTRY, Israel.” She has separately accused the administration of bombing power facilities and desalination plants inside Iran and Kuwait.
Greene has also criticized Trump directly over the war’s toll, calling a Truth Social post touting a comparatively low American death count “stupid” and accusing the president of “bragging about killing 18 US soldiers.” Earlier in the conflict, she wrote that Americans “voted for NO MORE FOREIGN WARS AND NO MORE REGIME CHANGE,” and has argued that claims Iran was close to building a nuclear weapon echo “the same nuclear lies” used to justify past Middle East interventions.
Economic and Policy Grievances
Beyond foreign policy, Saturday’s post repeated a set of domestic grievances Greene has voiced since her resignation, including opposition to the buildout of AI data centers, which she says are consuming land and water resources in communities that oppose them, and criticism of the administration’s approach to the Department of Government Efficiency, which she says was abandoned rather than used to reduce federal spending. Greene also renewed her allegation that the administration has failed to deliver on the “Make America Healthy Again” agenda associated with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., citing legal immunity granted to glyphosate manufacturers and continued support for mRNA vaccines.
Political Fallout
Greene’s post arrives roughly three months before the November 3, 2026 midterm elections, in which control of both chambers of Congress is at stake. Public polling in the weeks before her post showed Democrats holding a consistent lead on the generic congressional ballot, with surveys from YouGov/Economist, Pew Research and Strength In Numbers/Verasight all showing Trump’s approval rating underwater. Greene’s post argues that the erosion in Republican support stems not from external factors but from what she calls Trump’s own record of broken commitments to the voters who elected him.
The White House did not immediately respond to Greene’s Saturday post. The Department of Defense previously called Greene’s criticism of the administration’s handling of the Iran war “disgusting,” with acting press secretary Joel Valdez saying in July that “we all serve at the pleasure of the President of the United States, not a foreign nation or foreign leaders.”
