President Trump Boasts Naval Power — “The Blockade Is Genius — It Has Been 100% Foolproof”

President Donald Trump, speaking to reporters during a group meeting with the Artemis crew at the White House on April 29, 2026, highlighted what he described as the effectiveness of a U.S. naval blockade and broader American military operations. His remarks focused heavily on the strength of U.S. forces and ongoing pressure on Iran, framing recent military actions as overwhelmingly successful and strategically decisive.

During the exchange, a reporter asked, “Mr. President, overall, how long are you prepared to maintain the blockade? Could that go several more months?” Trump responded by praising the operation and the military behind it, saying: “The blockade is genius. The blockade has been 100% foolproof. It shows how good our navy is. Nobody’s going to play games. We have the greatest military in the world that I built much of in my first term and we’ve been building it since. Nobody even close. You see that everywhere, whether it’s Venezuela, which has a good military, but it was over in one day, actually about 48 minutes. Iran the same thing. Militarily we’ve wiped them out. They have no military left. The navy is at the bottom of the sea. The air force is never going to fly again. We’ve got an amazing military now. They have to give up. Just say we give up. But their economy is really in trouble. It’s a dead economy.”

Another reporter then asked whether continued violations of the blockade or Iranian actions could accelerate nuclear talks or require further strikes. Trump responded that discussions were ongoing but remained conditional, saying: “It depends. We have talks with them now. We’re not flying anymore with 18-hour flights. Every time we want to see a piece of paper, we’re doing it telephonically. It’s very nice. I make a call or have my people make a call. I always like face to face, but when you have to fly 18 hours every time it’s ridiculous. They’ve come a long way. The question is whether they’re going far enough. At this moment there will never be a deal unless they agree that there will be no nuclear weapons.”

The remarks underscored the administration’s continued framing of military pressure as a central factor in diplomacy with Iran, with Trump repeatedly asserting that recent operations have severely degraded Iranian military capacity. He tied the blockade’s effectiveness to broader U.S. naval dominance and ongoing strikes conducted under the current military posture.

The comments also reflected a stance that negotiations remain contingent on Iran accepting strict limits on its nuclear program, with Trump indicating that failure to do so would prevent any agreement from being reached.
