Rep. Eric Burlison (R-Mo.), a member of the House Oversight Committee, described the growing list of mysterious deaths and disappearances of American scientists working on critical national security technologies as deeply suspicious and a potential national security threat.
“If even a fraction of these cases are connected, we’re looking at serious national security vulnerabilities. That’s why we’re pushing federal agencies for answers,” Burlison posted on X following his appearance on Fox News’ The Ingraham Angle.
During the April 22, 2026, interview with host Laura Ingraham, Burlison said the pattern of brilliant Americans working on breakthrough technologies — including nuclear propulsion, plasma research for nuclear fusion, advanced aeronautics, and materials for hypersonic missiles — has left the nation weaker.
“It is really suspicious, Laura,” Burlison stated. “We have a growing list of brilliant Americans who are working on breakthrough technology that was all critical to our nation, to our national security efforts.”
He highlighted that several of the individuals left their homes without their car keys or phones — items most people do not leave behind — and never returned, calling the circumstances highly unusual.
Burlison emphasized that the cases involve personnel with the highest levels of security clearances and stressed the need for a cross-agency investigation by the FBI and other federal entities.
“Absolutely … this is becoming very concerning,” he added. “This is a growing list, and they weren’t working on just any kind of research. This is some of the nation’s most advanced, important things.”
This is a developing story.
