"We Won Like 40 Times" — Marjorie Taylor Greene Mocks Trump's Iran Claims as U.S. Bombs Iran Again During Ceasefire, Warns of Another "Forever Foreign War"

Former U.S. Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene launched a biting broadside against President Donald Trump on Tuesday evening, mocking the administration’s Iran narrative with sharp sarcasm after U.S. Central Command announced it had struck over 80 Iranian targets in response to fresh attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz — a conflict the president has repeatedly declared all but won.

Greene posted her remarks on X at 8:55 PM on July 7, 2026, hours after CENTCOM announced the latest round of retaliatory strikes and as Trump was attending the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey. The post, written in Greene’s signature satirical voice, took direct aim at one of the central tensions defining American foreign policy in mid-2026: a president who campaigned on ending forever wars now presiding over what his critics — including members of his own former coalition — are increasingly calling exactly that.

“We Won Like 40 Times”

Greene’s full post, published to her 4.5 million followers on X, read:

“We are back to bombing Iran during the ceasefire for the Iran war that is not a war because Iran bombed a vessel for crossing the Strait of Hormuz that they don’t control yet apparently control. Not sure how they bombed the vessel because we have totally and completely obliterated their military and beat them in the war that is not a war like 40 times now. I’m so glad that Trump ran for president to end forever foreign wars otherwise I might start thinking this war that is not a war that we won like 40 times is starting to turn into another forever foreign war in the Middle East. Good thing Pete Hegseth, Secretary of the Department of Defense, I mean War, is headed to Israel to take orders from, I mean ask for advice, on how to totally wipe out Iran, I mean bring peace. I’m totally sure no one in the executive branch or donors will do any sort of insider trading based on super duper secret military decisions. You know the kind based on intelligence that Congress is going to fuse with Israel’s military after they all vote to pass the National Defense (war) Authorization Act. Because this is exactly what we all voted for when we said Make America Great Again.”

The Strike That Prompted Her

The post came hours after CENTCOM released an official statement confirming U.S. forces had completed a new round of offensive strikes against Iran on July 7, hitting over 80 targets with precision munitions. U.S. forces struck Iranian air defense systems, command and control networks, coastal radar sites, anti-ship missile capabilities, and more than 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps small boats in and near the strait to degrade Iran’s ability to continue attacking international commerce flowing through the international trade corridor.

Iran had attacked three commercial vessels transiting the strait — the Marshall Islands-flagged M/T Al Rekayyat, Saudi Arabia-flagged M/T Wedyan, and Liberian-flagged M/T Cyprus Prosperity — actions CENTCOM described as a clear and dangerous violation of the ceasefire. CENTCOM announced on X at 4:15 PM that the strikes were imposed to hold Iran accountable for “targeting and attacking commercial shipping crewed by innocent civilians in an international waterway.”

A Long-Running Feud With Trump Over the War

Tuesday’s post was far from Greene’s first assault on the administration over the Iran conflict. Her opposition has been sustained and escalating since the war’s earliest days, making her one of the most prominent dissenting voices from within the former MAGA coalition.

When Trump launched initial major strikes on Iran in late February, Greene posted a nearly 700-word statement on X dismissing the administration’s rationale and accusing the president of betraying supporters who backed his campaign message of opposing more foreign wars. She rejected the president’s stated rationale around Iran’s nuclear capabilities outright, writing online: “It’s always a lie and it’s always America Last. But it feels like the worst betrayal this time because it comes from the very man and the admin who we all believed was different.”

In early March, Greene appeared on conservative commentator Megyn Kelly’s SiriusXM show and questioned Trump’s mental state, saying: “I want to ask a question, a serious question: What is in his mind? What is his mental state?” She added: “I want to say, what is happening to the man that I supported, you supported, the man that denounced what happened in Iraq, the man that said ‘No more foreign wars,’ ‘No more regime change?’ Promised it on the campaign. JD Vance promised it. Tulsi Gabbard promised it, all of them promised it. And we’re a year in, a year in, and we’re in another f—ing war, and we’ve got American troops being killed.”

Warning of Political Consequences

Greene has consistently tied her opposition to the conflict to its potential political fallout for the Republican Party. In early March, she warned that Trump’s war in Iran could cost Republicans the midterms, saying: “Now that Trump and his admin betrayed their campaign promises of No More Foreign Wars/No More Regime Change and Republicans in the majority in the House and Senate are flat out refusing to pass key legislation, voter outrage was shown in yesterday’s Texas primary. More Democrats showed up to vote than Republicans in yesterday’s Texas primary. If that happens in November’s general election, Texas will be flipping it’s Senate seat blue.”

She issued one of her strongest warnings in May, writing: “If you send in U.S. military troops into Iran, there is going to be a political revolution in America. We said no more foreign wars and we meant it. The coalition will unite and be unstoppable. I’ll make sure of it.”

Greene’s opposition reached its most dramatic point in April when she called for Trump to be removed from office via the 25th Amendment after he threatened on Truth Social to annihilate an entire Iranian civilization.

No Longer Just a Former Ally

Greene’s transformation from Donald Trump’s most visible congressional ally to one of his most vehement public critics has been one of the defining political stories of 2026, with every escalation in the Iran conflict serving as a fresh inflection point in the rupture. Speaking to NewsNation in June, Greene said Americans were unlikely to believe a deal was finalized until it was formally signed, noting: “We’ll believe it when we see it actually inked and signed. The president has said, I think, approximately 38 or 39 times before that he has a deal with Iran, so I’ll wait to see.”

Greene also acknowledged believing that Trump entered the conflict in part to support Israel, and said Americans had gotten to the point where they were asking, “What am I getting out of this?” citing rising health care costs and affordability issues for younger generations.

As of Tuesday’s post, the ceasefire the administration negotiated remains fragile, the Strait of Hormuz continues to be a flashpoint, and the retaliatory strikes show no sign of stopping — a reality Greene appears determined to keep in the public eye, regardless of what the White House says about the war being won.
