President Donald Trump warned during a March 16, 2026, event with Vice President JD Vance that Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon would lead to the destruction of the entire Middle East, underscoring the importance of recent U.S. military action to neutralize the threat.
Trump addressed the Iranian regime’s aggressive intentions and the missile attacks it launched after Operation Epic Fury began, stating, “If you believe that Iran should have a nuclear weapon, there’s something wrong with you because they would use it within the only question is within one hour if they get it or one day they will use it and they will blow up the entire Middle East, not just Israel. They’ll start with Israel, but they will blow up. And you got to see that when they unexpectedly started sending missiles to every country within a thousand miles of them. I mean, they’re blowing up countries that were neighbors, not necessarily some friends. They actually blowing up some friends.”

The president described those strikes on nations including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Kuwait as evidence of Iran’s drive to dominate the region, actions that demonstrated how a nuclear-armed Iran would have escalated far beyond conventional conflict.
Operation Epic Fury, conducted by U.S. Central Command, dismantled key elements of Iran’s military capabilities through more than 6,500 combat flights involving B-2 stealth bombers, F-35 and F-22 fighters, and naval assets including nuclear-powered carriers and guided-missile destroyers. As of March 16, 2026, the operation had damaged or destroyed over 100 Iranian vessels while targeting command centers, IRGC headquarters, ballistic missile sites, air defense systems and weapons production facilities.

Trump noted that terminating the prior Iran nuclear deal in his first term and executing these precision strikes prevented the regime from acquiring and using nuclear weapons, averting what he described as a nuclear war that could have engulfed the Middle East and escalated globally.
