Rep. Andy Biggs issued a warning Saturday night following a shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner that prompted the evacuation of Donald Trump and other high ranking officials. In a post on X dated April 25, 2026, Biggs described the event as a reminder of what he characterized as the presence of “evil” and its intent to destabilize the nation’s governing system.
“Tonight was another reminder that evil exists and that those who carry out its schemes seek to wreak chaos within our Constitutional Republic,” Biggs wrote. He added that he was “grateful no harm came to our president or any elected or administration official, or journalist in the room,” concluding with, “May God bless and keep America.”
The incident referenced by Biggs occurred during the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington, where a gunman opened fire near a security checkpoint. According to officials, the attacker, armed with multiple weapons including a shotgun, fired at a Secret Service agent before being subdued. The agent was protected by a bulletproof vest and later described by Trump as being in “good shape.” Federal authorities identified the suspect as acting alone and confirmed that the individual had been taken into custody.
As the situation unfolded, security personnel moved swiftly to secure the venue. Attendees, numbering in the thousands, were instructed to take cover as shots rang out, with reports of people shouting “Get down, get down!” Secret Service agents and other security forces evacuated Trump and First Lady Melania Trump from the ballroom, while cabinet members including Marco Rubio, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Doug Burgum were escorted to safety.
In remarks after the incident, Trump described the suspect as a “sick person” who “looked pretty evil,” recounting that the individual charged a security checkpoint from a distance before being stopped by Secret Service agents. Closed-circuit footage later released showed the suspect moving rapidly toward the checkpoint before officers responded. Trump also confirmed that federal agents were investigating the suspect’s background, including conducting a search of a residence in California.
The episode marks the third known assassination attempt targeting Trump, following two incidents in 2024 during his campaign for reelection. One of those occurred in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump was struck in the ear by gunfire at a rally, while another involved an armed individual discovered near Trump International Golf Club in Florida. Biggs, who has represented Arizona’s 5th Congressional District since 2017 and previously chaired the House Freedom Caucus, has been a consistent political ally of Trump and a prominent voice within the conservative wing of the Republican Party.
