“I Am More Fearful Than Ever After This Briefing That We May Be Putting Boots on the Ground and That Troops from the United States May Be Necessary to Accomplish Objectives That the Administration Seems to Have,” Sen. Blumenthal Sounds the Alarm on Operation Epic Fury Following Classified Briefing — “There Is Still No Evidence, None, of an Imminent Threat That Would Justify an Attack on Iran”

“I am more fearful than ever after this briefing that we may be putting boots on the ground and that troops from the United States may be necessary to accomplish objectives that the administration seems to have,” warned Richard Blumenthal, speaking to reporters on Tuesday following a classified update on the ongoing U.S.-led military operations against Iran, dubbed Operation Epic Fury.

Blumenthal expressed deep concern over the lack of clarity from the administration, saying, “I also am no more clear on what the priorities are going to be of the administration going forward, whether it is destroying the nuclear capacity of Iran or simply the missiles or regime change or stopping terrorist activities. And I think the administration owes it to the American people to have briefings, not just for members of Congress, but for the American public. Nothing here should have been classified. It should be available to the American people.”

He specifically challenged claims about the timing of U.S. military action, stating that there is still no evidence of an imminent threat justifying the strikes: “I will give you my impression, which is that there is still no evidence, none, of an imminent threat that would justify an attack on Iran. No imminent threat to the United States has been set forth to me, but more important to the American people.”

Blumenthal’s warnings come amid mounting casualties for American forces. As stated in a report by The New York Times, six U.S. service members have already been killed in the first three days of the conflict, including two troops whose remains were recovered Monday after an Iranian strike on a base housing U.S. forces in Kuwait. The report also noted that several other service members were seriously wounded, and officials are anticipating additional casualties as operations continue.

The senator’s remarks underline growing anxiety in Congress over potential escalation. While U.S. Central Command continues operations against Iranian missile facilities, drones, and naval units, the reality of battlefield losses has heightened scrutiny of the administration’s strategy and its long-term objectives.

Blumenthal concluded by urging transparency and accountability, emphasizing that the American public deserves to know the rationale behind military actions: “The administration owes it to the American people to be clear about what is happening and why, and the lack of evidence of an imminent threat only increases my concern that U.S. troops could face unnecessary danger in this conflict.”
